For many students, the mere mention of the word “math” can produce immediate and noticeable anxiety. This can result from a variety of factors.
For younger students, the challenge may stem from trouble understanding concepts like fractions, decimals, or multi-step word problems. For middle and high school students, the way the material is taught in the traditional classroom may be the issue. Others may experience difficulty recalling facts or comprehending the logical relationship between numbers.
No matter what aspect of math is causing your child to struggle – and whether it is with elementary math or a college-level course – our top-credentialed tutors have the experience, compassion, and energy to make learning math a fun, rewarding, and success-producing process.
One reason for this success is the variety of research-proven strategies our tutors rely on to deliver results, including:
- Using manipulatives and multi-sensory approaches to engage students;
- Introducing rhymes and games for younger students
- Teaching recall strategies, such as working from known facts, finger tricks, and recognizing patterns
- Previewing what's coming up in class
"Educational Connections was a game-changer for my son. They are hyper-attentive to the individual needs of the student and a great organization to work with. My son went from failing high school math to a B average. Moreover, he actually looked forward to working with his tutor on a weekly basis, taking a lot of stress off of both of us." - James G.
Our Math Tutoring Difference
At Educational Connections, we offer more than just a math tutor – every student benefits from working with a dedicated, highly qualified coach to help bridge the gap between subject mastery and the organizational, test-taking and other executive function skills essential for them to thrive.
The first step in each of our programs is to have you speak with one of our program managers to assess your student’s unique needs around not just particular subject matter, but also any potential executive function skills that would benefit them. This program manager will stay with your family throughout your student’s journey.
Next, your program manager will hand-select the math tutor best suited to your child’s needs and personality. The tutor will engage in virtual instruction focused on knowledge review and executive functions skills as dictated by the student’s needs and plan.
Throughout the coaching process, parents will receive progress reports after each session, letting them know what their child has worked on and what has been assigned for homework.
Our math tutors do not deliver strategies in a cookie-cutter fashion like many other tutoring services. Rather, they deliver a customized program designed to meet the unique needs of your child’s specific learning style and goals.
