Dear Parents and Colleagues:

Over the last 20 years, there has been a significant amount of progress in understanding an important skill set your child must have in order to enjoy success in school.  These cognitive abilities are called executive functions.  They play an instrumental role in planning, organizing, initiation, regulating emotions, and sticking with a task even when it seems uninteresting.  Executive functions (EF) improve as a child ages, but some students need direct instruction when they don't naturally possess these skills.

Unsure if your child could use help improving his or her EF skills?  Take this quick quiz by answering "yes" or "no" to the following:

My child:
  • Regularly struggles to start tasks.
  • Keeps a messy room and a disorganized locker or desk.
  • Has difficulty following instructions, especially with many steps.
  • Does not complete assignments unless he's constantly reminded.
  • Forgets to turn in homework even when it’s completed.
  • Loses things regularly, from coat to books.
  • Has difficulty planning long-term assignments.
If you answered "yes" to the majority of these questions, your child may benefit from instruction on how to stay organized, on task, and on time.
How can we help your child gain
these important EF skills?

We are offering specialized instruction this summer to help students with weak executive functioning overcome obstacles.  Our highly trained tutors will use our trademarked Educational Coaching Process™ program to provide a structured and fun environment for your child.  Students will learn lifelong skills that will help them start their new school year with a fresh and confident outlook.

You can choose to sign your child up for either in-home tutoring or our August group class, here at our Fairfax office.  See details below.

In-Home Tutoring: We bring the Educational Coach to your front door and work around your summer vacation schedule.  Our tutors can tailor and fit the program to your child's needs and help provide them the necessary tools that they will need for school.  Great for all ages.

Group Class: Eight sessions in our Fairfax, VA office every
Tuesday/ Thursday starting August 3rd- August 26th.  Each session will be jam packed with study techniques and strategies to assist with organization and prioritization of tasks.  Kids have fun helping  "mock students" prepare for school and along the way learn valuable tools on managing time effectively.  This program is geared for rising 6-9th graders.

I look forward to assisting you and your family to help make this summer a rewarding educational experience. If you have any questions about our Educational Coaching Process™ or just want to drop me a line, please email me at ann@ectutoring.com.

Warm regards,
Ann
