Dear Parents and Colleagues,
Although it's tempting to put learning on the back burner, research shows that students can lose up to 2.6 months of grade level equivalency in both math and reading if they aren't academically engaged. In fact, many students score lower on same tests at the end of summer in comparison to the start. The good news is that learning can be engaging, fun, and motivating even when warm summer breezes bring our minds elsewhere.
Here are 4 recommendations for students
to stay on track this summer
1. Summer Reading/Writing
We offer customized reading and writing assistance to students of all ages with the goal to open up the world of reading. Our experienced tutors are skilled at making learning an enjoyable experience and will 100% tailor to your child's needs.
If you would like a more specialized reading program, we can offer the following research based programs:
-
REWARDS- Systematic approach uses a flexible strategy for decoding long words and increases reading fluency, particularly in content-area passages. Recommended for rising 4th-10th graders.
-
Spire and Wilson- Both of these Orton-Gillingham programs address reading and spelling in a structured, multi-sensory ways. Recommended for all ages.

2. Math Rescue
For younger students, we offer programs such as Touch Math and Flip over Math. These programs teach concepts through engaging, hands on activities and also reinforce the automaticity of math facts. Grades K-8.
For older students, we offer Algebra 1 Rescue which comprises 60 core objectives that students will learn to master algebra concepts through practice and problem solving. Grades 7-11.
3. Learn to Keyboard this Summer
Back by popular demand we are pleased to announce that we will once again hold a summer keyboarding class for rising 3rd-7th graders at our center in Fairfax, VA. For many students, typing is often much easier than handwriting. Our instructors will use proven, multi-sensory methods and software to increase your child’s typing speed. In addition, students will utilize Inspiration writing software. Two sessions will be offered over the months of July and August.
